Television tweed and weaving shuttle

screenprint on fabric

Fabric Workshop & Museum Philadelphia, 2012

A scrambled analog TV signal on herringbone fabric and two industrial weaving shuttles speeding towards each other. The fabric references its own production. The “Schiffchen” (German for a small ship) as these weaving shuttles are also used to be called, seem to swim on the watery pattern of the fabric. Woven fabric is always digital as it consists of a basic binary code, that of thread being either lifted or dropped.
